The Benefits of Reading the Bible — And Actually Living It Out

Why Scripture matters, and practical steps for making it part of your everyday life

Owning a Bible and actually reading it are two very different things — and reading it versus letting it genuinely shape your life are two different things again. As part of TFF's Reach pillar, we spend a lot of time talking about getting Scripture into people's hands through Bible distribution. This post is about what happens next: what it actually looks like to read the Bible consistently, and let it take root in daily life.

Why Reading the Bible Matters

Scripture isn't just a historical document or a moral guidebook — Christians believe it's the living Word of God, meant to actively shape how we think, what we value, and how we live. A few specific benefits worth naming:

It Provides Wisdom for Real Decisions

Scripture offers guidance that goes beyond simple rule-following — it shapes the way we think through decisions, relationships, and challenges. Regular reading builds a kind of internal reference point that becomes available in the exact moments it's needed most.

It Renews the Mind

Many believers describe consistent Bible reading as a way of actively resisting discouragement, fear, and negative thought patterns — replacing them, over time, with truth that holds up under pressure. This isn't a one-time fix; it's a practice that compounds over months and years.

It Deepens a Relationship With God

Reading Scripture isn't only about gathering information — it's a primary way believers describe getting to know God's character, His promises, and His heart. Like any relationship, this deepens through consistent time, not occasional visits.

It Builds Resilience Through Hard Seasons

Many of the Bible's own writers penned some of its most hope-filled words during genuinely difficult circumstances. Familiarity with Scripture gives believers something steady to return to when life doesn't feel steady at all.

It Equips Believers to Share Their Faith

Confidence in sharing the gospel — core to TFF's Reach pillar — grows naturally out of familiarity with Scripture. The more comfortable someone is in God's Word, the more naturally they're able to share it with others.

Practical Steps for Making It Stick

Knowing Bible reading matters is one thing. Building a sustainable habit around it is another. Here are a few practical steps that make a real difference:

1. Start small. A consistent five minutes a day will do more for your spiritual growth than an ambitious hour-long plan you abandon after a week. Build the habit first; let it grow naturally from there.

2. Pick a specific time and pair it with something you already do. Attaching Bible reading to an existing habit — morning coffee, a lunch break, right before bed — makes it far more likely to stick than an unanchored “someday” intention.

3. Use a reading plan instead of starting cold. Trying to decide what to read each day is often the biggest barrier to consistency. A structured plan removes that daily decision entirely.

4. Write down what you read, even briefly. A few sentences noting what stood out and why turns passive reading into active reflection — and gives you something to look back on later.

5. Ask a simple question after each reading: what does this teach me, and what's one way I can live differently because of it? This is the step that turns information into transformation — moving Scripture from something you know to something you actually do.

6. Find a person or community to read alongside. Sharing what you're learning, even with just one other person, adds accountability and often surfaces insights you would have missed reading alone.

7. Expect it to take time. Like any meaningful relationship, a deep familiarity with Scripture builds gradually. Give yourself grace on inconsistent days, and simply return to it the next day.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,

a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105

From Reading to Living

The real goal was never simply finishing a reading plan — it's letting Scripture actually reshape daily choices, relationships, and character over time. A Bible read faithfully but never applied leaves most of its value on the table. The practical steps above exist to help close that gap, turning consistent reading into a life that increasingly reflects what's been read.

Meet Our Missionaries:

Max & Sophie Hoyt

Every missionary Trident Freedom Foundation sponsors has a story that starts the same way: an ordinary life, interrupted by an unmistakable call. For Max and Sophie Hoyt, that call came in 2022, and it's been reshaping their lives — and the lives of everyone they meet — ever since.

From Minneapolis to the Mission Field

Max and Sophie are from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in 2022 they sensed the Lord leading them into a life of full-time ministry. That call didn't stay abstract for long. Pastor Terrance Reeves Chong of Freedom Church took a chance on the young couple, placing Max as one of the head leaders of the church's Young Adults Wednesday service, giving him the opportunity to preach weekly and giving Sophie room to lead, mentor and pray for the women in her weekly Bible study.

Over the two years that followed, Max and Sophie watched the Holy Spirit move in remarkable ways through that weekly gathering, praise & worship nights, and daily evangelism — a season that became the training ground for everything that came next.

A Season Overseas

In September 2024, Max and Sophie joined YWAM (Youth With A Mission) for a six-month mission trip focused on seeing the lost saved, the sick healed, and the oppressed delivered. Much of that season was spent in Albania, where they watched men and women encounter Jesus, many for the first time.

That overseas chapter confirmed what God had already been building in their hearts: a ministry devoted to equipping everyday believers to carry the gospel into their everyday lives, wherever they are.

Coast to Coast Ministries

Since 2023, Max and Sophie have carried a vision to build Coast to Coast Ministries — an evangelistic ministry focused on training the Church in lifestyle evangelism. Their goal is simple but bold: to teach believers how to walk in the power, blessing, and authority Jesus has given them, and to make the Great Commission a genuine priority for anyone who follows Him.

Today, Max and Sophie travel the country hosting soul-winning crusades and equipping churches, youth groups, and everyday believers to share their faith naturally, wherever God has already placed them. Their ministry is built on Acts 10:38 and Mark 16:15-18 — a foundation of preaching, healing, and setting captives free.

Their calendar reflects that heartbeat. Recent and upcoming events have included a young adults revival week in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area, and a multi-day Holy Ghost tent revival in Fairbanks, Alaska — evidence of a ministry that goes wherever the invitation leads, coast to coast.

Why TFF Sponsors This Ministry

Behind an Evangelistic Event

From the outside, an evangelistic event looks simple: a stage, a microphone, an invitation. What most people never see is everything that happens before a single word is preached. This month, we're pulling back the curtain on an event called Flood Week 2026, recently held in the Minneapolis, MN area.

Months Before the Microphone

Every outreach event starts long before the night itself — with prayer, planning, and relationship-building. TFF works alongside local churches and ministry partners to identify a city or community ready for outreach, then spends weeks coordinating logistics: securing a venue, recruiting volunteers, and equipping local believers to follow up with anyone who responds.

Flood Week 2026 brought together nearly 30 volunteers and 8 ministries, all united around a single purpose: spreading the gospel through unity. Rather than working in isolation, these ministries came together in true collaboration, pooling their strengths and resources toward one shared mission.

Making it happen took hours of behind-the-scenes preparation — securing buildings, coordinating outreach efforts across the city, and ensuring the right leaders were positioned at each stage, all so the week could run smoothly and the focus could stay on the mission itself.

The Week of Gatherings

At the largest gathering of the week, 150 people from various churches and young adult ministries came together to hear the gospel preached — many hearing it clearly for the first time. Together we worshiped and heard from multiple speakers who delivered mini sermons, commissioning the crowd to become the next wave of gospel spreaders across Minnesota. The praise to the Lord was so joyful and exciting that it was hard to contain!

What Happens After

An altar call is never the finish line. The real work of discipleship begins the moment someone responds — which is why TFF prioritizes partnering with local churches equipped to walk alongside new believers long after the event ends.

The impact of Flood Week 2026 reached far beyond what any of us could have imagined. In all, 291 people were prayed for and 149 gospel seeds were planted throughout the week. Seventeen people experienced first-time salvations, two rededicated their lives to Christ, and one was baptized on the spot. We also witnessed 6 healings and 9 breakthrough moments, while 9 Bibles were placed directly into the hands of those who needed them most. Every number represents a real person touched by the love of Jesus — proof that when ministries unite for one purpose, the Lord moves in powerful ways.

Our follow-up began right after the event ended, as we reached out to everyone who partnered with us. We've since started planning monthly unity gatherings, with the goal of turning the spark that came from Flood Week into a full flame that impacts all of Minnesota.

Why TFF Invests in Evangelistic Events

Our Reach pillar exists because we believe every person deserves the chance to hear the gospel clearly presented, in a context that welcomes questions and doesn't rush the response. Evangelistic events like this one are one part of a much larger, ongoing work of reaching cities and communities for Christ.

Want to See This in Your City?

Flood Week 2026 didn't happen by accident — it happened because churches and ministries chose to set aside their differences and unite around one mission. And this is only the beginning. TFF is committed to partnering with local churches and ministry leaders to bring outreach events like this to communities across Minnesota and beyond.

If your church or ministry is interested in partnering with us for a future outreach, or if you'd like to request an event in your own community, we'd love to hear from you. Fill out our Partnership Application below, and let's start the conversation about what God might do next.
